Bastille Day Celebration! Julie Slim & RENDEZVOUS

Julie Slim is a Lebanese-American multilingual jazz and world music vocalist based in Austin TX, known for her versatility in singing in a variety of genres.  Her most recent project is RendezVous, founded in 2013, which specializes in jazz and international standards from the 1920s-1960s. Backed by multifaceted musicians Shawn Ellison (keyboard), Shirley Johnson (accordion), Phil Spencer (upright bass), and Joe McCreary (drums),  Julie Slim's precise and warm vocals transport the audience to a different time and place, reinterpreting  standards in a variety of jazz and latin rhythms. Julie Slim & RendezVous are currently in a monthly residency at The Skylark Lounge, every third week of the month. In addition to two previously released CD's with RendezVous, Julie has recently released a full-length French CD titled "Promenade Sentimentale", an emotional journey through the many facets of love,  available at CdBabyBandcamp and other online music sites as well as at Waterloo Records in downtown Austin, TX.  On November 22, 2017 Julie won an Honorable Mention Award in the USA Songwriting competition for the song, Sarabande de Solitude with music by Shawn Ellison and lyrics by Julie Slim.

Julie collaborates with many local jazz and world music bands in Austin, and is happy to have worked with the Austin Jazz Workshop over the years, as a vocalist and educator.  Paying it forward, Julie sings with the Austin chapter of Threshold Choir on a weekly basis.

Julie is also an accomplished actress, having performed in regional repertory theaters like Muhlenberg Summer Repertory (Kismet, The Mikado) when she lived in Allentown, PA, and on several stages in Austin (State Theatre, Paramount) before being nominated for the B. Iden Payne award for supporting actress in 1996.  In 1999, she founded Cabarageous with Donna Lipman, a cabaret act themed around friendship, which performed around Austin, notably the Zach Scott Cabaret Series.

Julie Slim holds a Masters degree in Linguistics and Level III certification in the Kodály Methodology of music education.
